A bartender's staple, this drink is so easy to make, boozy, complex and delicious. The best part is it's a 2-fer: a negroni with bourbon is a Boulevardier!

Ingredients

  • Main Spirit: 1 ½ ounces bourbon (preferably Maker’s Mark) for Boulevardier OR 1 ½ ounces gin (like Tanqueray or homemade, or any of these) for a standard Negroni

  • ¾ ounce sweet vermouth, preferably Cinzano 1757 or Dolin Rouge

  • ¾ ounce Campari

  • Twist of orange peel, for garnish

Directions

  1. Chill a cocktail glass by filling with ice or putting in freezer for about 5 minutes (optional)

  2. Pour the liquid ingredients into a mixing glass. Fill mixing glass 2/3 full of ice and stir until chilled, about 30 seconds.

  3. Strain into cocktail glass, ideally over a large ice cube. Garnish with orange twist.

Tip: This can be made in advance and kept in a bottle or pitcher for large houseparties, just stir with ice, strain and serve.
